SCA invites teachers in and around Rhode Island for an after-school wine and cheese gathering at its pavilion at the Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stopover Race Village on National Teachers' Day, May 5th. The Race Village opens to the public on May 5th at 3 p.m. and is followed an hour later with an opening ceremony scheduled for 4 p.m. that includes Rhode Island Governor Gina Raimondo, Sail Newport Executive Director Brad Read and others. Immediately following the opening ceremony, SCA will honor and celebrate teachers and thank them for their service to youth, to education and to the community. SCA is the sponsor of Team SCA, the only all-female crew participating in the 2014/2015 Volvo Ocean Race. They may be most recognized by their magenta sailboat and crew of 14 extraordinary women. SCA is calling all teachers to stop by the SCA Pavillion in the Volvo Ocean Race Village at Fort Adams State Park between 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. for a free wine and cheese gathering. The first 150 teachers to arrive will also receive a gift. Guests will also have the opportunity to win two tickets to the spectator boat during the In-Port Race around Narragansett Bay on May 16. The twelve-day public celebration will feature racing off the shore of Fort Adams (May 14-17), entertainment, a marine Exploration Zone, sponsor pavilions, family games, a "Life at the Extreme" theater, team compounds, try sailing, kids activities, concerts and a working boatyard. The race boats will be docked at Fort Adams for public viewing.
