Castle Hill Inn Becomes An Official Port Partner Of Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stopover

NEWPORT, RI (April 16, 2015) - Sail Newport announced that Castle Hill Inn, the luxurious and historic waterfront retreat in Newport, RI, is a Port Partner of this year's Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stopover. The round-the-world Volvo Ocean Race will make its only North American stopover in the Ocean State May 5-17. The Volvo Ocean Race is the world's premier offshore sailing race. The nine-month competition, which kicked off October 4, 2014 in Alicante, Spain, is an exceptional test of sailing prowess and human endeavor. A total of nine Legs, the race - for the first time ever-will include the stopover in Newport between Legs 6 and 7. The family-oriented 12-day celebration will also offer a full schedule of entertainment, marine and ocean sustainability education exhibits, live music, school programs, a food court, team compounds, kids rides and games, Volvo trucks and cars, interactive pavilions, a Heineken Docks beer garden and free sailing opportunities for the public. Two concerts will also be held as well inside Fort Adams on May 9 and May 14. On Sunday, May 17th, the outdoor Lawn at Castle Hill Inn will be open to the public and serve as a premier viewing point as the teams start out on transatlantic Leg 7 of their journey to Lisbon, Portugal. Overlooking Narragansett Bay, The Lawn has a long history of spectatorship, having hosted onlookers of the America's Cup from 1930-1983, alongside other famed races, including the Newport Bermuda Race and the America's Cup trials held during the summer of 2012.From sea to land, the Inn will provide guests and spectators with premium vantage points.
