Day 6 At Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stopover

Good Morning, it's Sunday, May 10th and here's a look at what's happening at the Volvo Ocean Race Newport Race Village today!

Happy Mother's Day! The Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stopover will be celebrating Mom today with complimentary Mother's day yoga, massages, manicures and special treats.

The Exploration Zone, a marine-themed educational experience with 22 exhibits from 20 educational partners in a 5,000-square-foot tent, open on Saturday morning at the Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stopover.

With interactive exhibits for all ages, the Exploration Zone aims to educate and inspire visitors about the sport of sailing, the oceans, and to discover continents and cultures around the world through the lens of the world's most grueling sailboat race. Exploration Zone themes include marine science and technology, geography and culture, sustainability and mathematics.

There will be a $10 parking fee per car from May 9 - 13.

10 a.m. - 7 p.m.: Volvo Ocean Race Newport Stopover Race Village Open To The Public

The Race Village will be open daily, May 5-17 and is free admission to all ages. The twelve-day public celebration will feature racing off the shore of Fort Adams (May 14-17), entertainment, a marine Exploration Zone, sponsor pavilions, family games, a "Life at the Extreme" theater, team compounds, try sailing, kids activities, concerts and a working boatyard. The race boats will be docked at Fort Adams for public viewing.

10 a.m. - 7 p.m.: Celebrate Mother's Day at the SCA Pavillion

COMPLIMENTARY massages, manicures and special treats. Mom's deserve to be pampered every day. On Mother's Day it's on SCA! Come to the SCA Pavilion in the Volvo Ocean Race Village at Fort Adams State Park in Newport from 10 am to 7 pm.

Have your picture taken at the SCA pavilion and post it to their Amazing Women Everywhere mosaic. First 150 submissions will be receive free t-shirts and every mom has a chance to win raffle prizes including:

Moet Champagne basket
Spectator boat tickets
Concert tickets
Helley Hansen Team SCA gear

10 a.m. - 7. p.m.: Family Friendly Activities in the Parade Field

10 a.m. - 5 p.m.: Try Sailing

Come onboard a Sail Newport J/22 to experience sailing. All ages invited. Lifejackets provided.

11 a.m. - 5 p.m.: Volvo Ocean Race Academy Team Racing

10:30 a.m. - 12:30 a.m.: Bubble Soccer

Bubble Soccer will be available at the Volvo Ocean Race Newport Race Village on Sunday, May 10th from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. The tournament will be set up inside Fort Adams and the games last for about 5 minutes. You can sign up on the day of, first come, first served!

12 p.m. - 6:40 p.m.: Another Day At The Office

An informative and entertaining quiz show based on the race and life on board, presented to you by a host who will guide you through a 40 minute program. The public will be divided into 7 teams and compete by both answering questions (through voting-boxes), and participating in physical challenges.

1 p.m. - 2 p.m.: Mother's Day Yoga

Sail Newport will host a free yoga session for moms.

2 p.m. - 4 p.m.: Bubble Soccer

Bubble Soccer will be available at the Volvo Ocean Race Newport Race Village on Sunday, May 10th from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. - 4 p.m. The tournament will be set up inside Fort Adams and the games last for about 5 minutes. You can sign up on the day of, first come, first served!

5:15 p.m.: Volvo Ocean Race Academy Parade Starting at the new pier at Fort Adams State Park

5:30 p.m.: Volvo Ocean Race Academy Awards Ceremony At the Arrivals Stage

Additionally, a face painter, stilt walkers and a juggler will be roaming the Race Village on Sunday, 12-2 p.m. Plus, the bumper boats pavilion will be open and there'll be lawn games inside Fort Adams. The National Guard will have a few vehicles and activities as well.
